About the program

The Dance Academy was another huge success in 2019 with fantastic teachers and a real buzz to the program. We have had hugely positive feedback from all those involved (students, parents, group leaders the Dance teachers themselves!) We are really excited about our involvement with DAPA and together we look forward to taking the Dance Academy on to yet another level in 2020.
DAPA has been running for over 12 years supplying teachers for dance courses nationwide.

DAPAs base is in Kent where it has over 50 students at its Dance Academy. The 2020 program will again offer a wide range of dance styles – Ballet, Street Jazz, and Contemporary Dance.

Courses will also cover limbering, stretching, and relaxational programs associated with dance. Students will gain new techniques and performance skills. Courses will also cover Tap dancing, Cheerleading and Irish Dancing. Our teaching staff is all very experienced with a background in professional theatre and in the world of dance.

Students wishing to join the course should already have a strong background in dance. It is NOT suitable for beginners.
The course is hard work – but great fun and a fantastic way to keep in shape and improve your dancing skills over the Summer Holidays

The Venue

From 2021 the Project International Academy will be based at Bethany School in Kent. Bethany is situated about 1 hour south of London between Tunbridge Wells and Ashford and is easily accessible all the London airports.

Founded by the Reverend Joseph Kendon in 1866, Bethany is a co-educational day and boarding school set on a rural campus in the heart of the stunning Kent countryside. Occupying some 60 acres of the Weald, Bethany has a truly enviable site.

Facilities at this picturesque campus include «state of the art» sports facilities, a brand new indoor swimming pool, and outdoor classrooms.

The Participants

Recommended age range – 10-16 years
Our basketball camp is open to boys and girls between 10 and 16 years from all over the world, including Great Britain.
We welcome individuals as well as organized groups/teams to the truly international environment that the Academy offers.
Please note that this basketball camp is NOT suitable for those who are at a very basic level or who merely want social soccer, golf, dance, basketball or tennis.

ACCOMMODATION

Very recently refurbished, rooms are of a good standard and consist of a mixture of single, doubles and a few triples. Rooms are spacious, airy, nicely decorated and comfortable and there are plenty of shower toilet facilities near to each room. Note we cannot guarantee specific rooms for any student in advance.

EVENINGS

A structured evening program is offered, organized by our Director of Activities and supported by other staff, and will include such activities as discos, barbeques, film shows, sports, and games.

STAFFING & PASTORAL CARE

In addition to our top-quality coaching staff, we have our own staff on-site 24 hours a day.
A Programme Director will oversee all aspects of this sports program and they are in constant liaison with the coaches, the school representatives, caterers, group leaders and the students themselves.
All staff are chosen for their ability to work with children and look after their various needs. They are aware that students are away from home, some of them for the first time and pastoral care is a major priority during the basketball training sessions and beyond that.

ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE

We have qualified teachers on site. We offer an optional TEFL course (this must be pre-booked). 12 hours tuition per week is offered and children will be taught according to ability with emphasis placed on conversation and communication.

FOOD

Bethany School has an exceptional reputation for high-quality food in its excellent dining room. Emphasis is placed on a good dietary balance as well as popular food allowing for different cultural tastes. There are three meals provided each day with traditional English as well as continental breakfasts; lunch and dinner with hot/cold options, a vegetarian choice as well as a salad bar.

The price includes:
* 7 nights at Bethany School full board accommodation (breakfast, lunch and dinner)
* 1 full day excursion (related to each sport where possible) each week with entrance paid
* Use of all facilities
* Supervised multi-activity sessions program
* Evening social program
* Laundry (NB sometimes a bespoke service is provided)
* Project International Staff on site 24hrs a day
* 1 half-day visit to watch a professional dance crew training session (where possible)*
* Full structured Dance program on 5 days a week with well-qualified Dance teachers provided by DAPA (covering Ballet, Street, Jazz & Contemporary, Tap & Cheerleading…).

CANCELLATION

Should a client have to cancel a booking at our basketball camp, it must be done in writing and, once received by us, we will acknowledge this in writing within three working days of receiving the client notification. Cancellation charges are payable as follows:  More than 4 weeks before commencement date – Loss of deposit ; 3-4 weeks before commencement date – -60% of holiday cost will be charged;  2-3 weeks before commencement date – 85% of holiday cost will be charged ; Less than 2 weeks before commencement date – 100% of holiday cost will be charged
